Plain Ol’ Hat
February 28, 2007
All the hats I have knit are fancy (stripes, fair-isle, etc.) and I needed a plain, solid colored hat to wear that matched most everything, so:
Materials: Any Chunky Weight yarn, I used Plymouth Encore Chunky
16″ Circular Needle, Size US 10
One set of Double Pointed Needles in the the same size
Gauge: Approx. 3.5 stitches/inch
Directions:
-Using Circular needle, cast on 64 stitches and join in the round.
-Knit in 2×2 ribbing for about 1.5 inches (Mine was 7 rounds)
-Continue, knitting in Stockinette stitch until piece measures about 5 inches (Maybe just a tad more)
-Start Decrease rounds (Divide your stitches onto your DPNs now):
Round 1: *Knit 6, K2tog* repeat around
Round 2 and all Even Number Rounds: Knit
Round 3: *Knit 5, K2tog* repeat around
Round 5: *Knit 4, K2tog* repeat around
Round 7: *Knit 3, K2tog* repeat around
Round 9: *Knit 2, K2tog* repeat around
Round 11: *Knit 1, K2tog* repeat around
Round 13: K2tog around.
Cut yarn and tread through remaining stitches, pull hole tight and weave in ends.
