The Inside-Out Hat

Yarn: Chunky Weight, 2 colors. I used Encore Chunky (Black) and Knitpicks Sierra (Blue) Needles: US Size 10.5 DPNs, set of 4
Guage: 3.5 Stitches per Inch in Stockinette Stitch

This hat is knit so that the side that shows when you wear it is in Reverse Stockinette. But,
when I was designing it, I didn’t want to have to purl that much, so I made it so you knit it, then turn it inside out to wear.

Now, you know when you do a long-tail cast on, technically the first row is knitted for you when you cast on? Then when you start your first row (after the cast-on), you purl that row? Well, since you turn the hat inside out to wear, there’s a different Cast-on. The Purl Long-tail cast on. If what I said didn’t make any sence to you at all, don’t worry about it, just do as I say, haha.

DIRECTIONS: Using the Special Cast-on, CO 60 stitches using the Main Color (Black). Divide onto 3 needles (20 stitches each).

Knit in Knit 1, Purl 2 ribbing for 6 rounds.

Join the second color (blue) and start the 2-round striping. So, you knit 2 rows with blue, then 2 with the Black, and so on and so forth. When changing from one color to the next, just carry the yarn up. That way, there aren’t a million ends to work in.

Knit (In stripe pattern) until the peice measures 5.5 inches from Cast-on.

DECREASE ROUNDS: (Still Striping)
Decrease Round (DR) #1: Knit 8, K2tog (54 Sts Remain)
DR #2: Knit 7, K2tog (48 Sts Remain)
DR #3: Knit 6, K2tog (42 Sts Remain)
DR #4: Knit 5, K2tog (36 Sts Remain)
DR #5: Knit 4, K2tog (30 Sts Remain)
DR #6: Knit 3, K2tog (24 Sts Remain)
DR #7: Knit 2, K2tog (18 Sts Remain)
DR #8: K2tog around (9 stitches remain) Cut yarn, and run it through the remaining Stitches to close the hole up. Weave in the ends on the Stockinette Side. Turn inside out and Wear!

This is a picture of the Side that is towards you while knitting. This will become the inside while your wearing it.
